This headline reminded me of George Orwell's 1984, and the extinguishing of the written word.
Where as Winston Smith manages to find an 'ancient relic': a pen & pad
Understanding that all of his actions are monitored,
he uses these banished artifacts to put thoughts to paper undermining Big Brother's surveillance.
Upon initially reading this part of the story, I deeply pondered whether or not it held any merit,
as it truly seems as though efforts are underway to 'shepherd' the 'useless eaters' in this direction.
