First Orbit

"Circling the Earth in my orbital spaceship
I marveled at the beauty of our planet.
People of the world,
let us safeguard and enhance this beauty —
not destroy it!"
- Yuri Gagarin (1934-1968)

Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin was [allegedly] the first person in space,
tonight is the anniversary of that maiden voyage into the enigmatic abyss known as space.
British film maker Christopher Riley working with an astronaut aboard the ISS set out to recreate the exact scenery Yuri witnessed upon this adventure.
The footage, shot by astronaut Pablo Nespoli, is synced in real time with mission control radio communications. So when Gagarin marvels at seeing the Earth from space for the first time, seeing green forest fading into white snow, so do you.
